Visualisation And Weight Loss – Control Your Subconscious And See The Pounds Drop Away!
Effecting change through visualising desired outcomes has become more and more acceptable in recent years. Psychologists still do not understand exactly how it works but clearly the mind and body are not as separate as we often believe. It seems that if you truly want something it is more likely to happen – provided of course that it is something that is possible, and within your control.
It’s not fully understood how visualising a goal, such as weight loss works, but more and more professionals agree that it does. What has been determined is that as long as you truly believe it’s what you want, then you can achieve it. However, in turn if you aren’t convinced you can lose weight, you won’t do it or you will have a much harder time of it.
Are you tired of waking up and seeing your overweight body in the mirror? In your mind’s eye can you still see the trim, beautiful, sexy body you had when you were younger? If so, you are already half-way to using visualisation to help you lose the pounds.
Basically it works like this: you create and keep a vision in your mind of how you want your body to look, and subconsciously you will begin acting in a way that will enable you to achieve that body. You will become much more positive about your body, you will find it easier to accept and keep to your diet or fitness regime, and you will achieve your weight loss goals more comfortably.
Visualisation helps us to do this by enabling us to truly want to lose weight by creating a clear and happy picture of just how our fitter bodies will look. This method enables us to overcome the psychological traps our subconscious puts in our own path to make sure things stay the same.
You still have that mental picture in your mind of how you used to look. By continually revisiting that image and believeing that is how you look, you will convince your subconscious that you are the slimmer image. Your subconscious will program your body to start moving in the direction of “body beautiful”. This synergy from your mind will cause you to be motivated more easily towards your weight loss. Ultimately the end result is you will find it easier to stick to your diet plan and exercise program.
The problem for many overweight people is that they believe they cannot lose weight. Someone who believes it is impossible to lose weight will be constantly battling their own negativity when trying to diet. Their subconscious will be constantly telling them there is no point dieting, they cannot lose weight so should just go ahead and eat everything they want. Visualisation is the strongest technique that we can use to overcome these negative thoughts and impulses.
When loved ones and people that matter to you are negative about your weight loss goals you will begin to believe you cannot achieve them. The positive power of your visualising your healthy body from your subconscious, can negate the negativity, created in your conscious mind by yourself and others.
Ok, now you have a basic understanding about using visualization and weight loss together. Let’s get into the actual ways you need to practice to work it effectively.
It is important to practice every day – morning and evening if you can. You just need to take a few minutes in a quiet place and keep an image in your mind of your body at its ideal weight. Some people can do this easily, others need some help. If you have a photograph of yourself at your ideal weight in the past, you may find it easier to look at that. Or use a photo from a magazine but cut off the person’s face. You need to visualize your own body, but thinner. You must be sure the body you want is attainable. Remember a goal has to be attainable to be realistic.
You can also visualize from the inside. Close your eyes and let your awareness focus on a part of your body – for example, your right thigh. Imagine it slowly becoming thinner in your mind’s eye. Then move to the other thigh, and on through the body. It may help to start at the feet and move up towards the head, or vice versa.
As you go about your work or daily chores, think of yourself as already at your ideal weight. Create your own affirmations and repeat them often, always in the present tense (”I am glad to be flexible, fit and slim”, not “I will …”). Enjoy the feeling of having a positive self-image. Over time, this will help you to keep to your weight loss plan. You will find that fatty foods are less attractive and exercise is more enjoyable.
While your weight loss will of course be gradual, the wonderful thing about visualization is that it gives you a new body image right away. Use visualization and weight loss to make you happier right now, today!
Visualisation can help you achieve far more than just weight loss, and this is just a very brief overview of how it works. You can find out more about visualisation through the resources page.
